Job Title: Director of Construction - Data Center
Location: Remote (50% Travel)
Reports to: Vice President of Construction
Job Summary:
The Director of Construction for Data Center New Builds is responsible for leading the successful planning, execution, and delivery of new data center construction projects. This role involves overseeing all phases of project development from concept through completion, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline, and quality standards. The Director will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including design, engineering, procurement, project management teams, contractors, and vendors, to deliver high-performance data centers that align with organizational objectives and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Leadership: Lead the end-to-end management of data center construction projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines, aligning them with the organization's strategic goals. Monitor progress and adjust plans as necessary to ensure projects remain on track.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (engineering, design, IT) and external partners (contractors, suppliers, consultants) to define project scope, specifications, and goals.
Risk Management: Identify and assess risks associated with data center construction, including regulatory, environmental, and safety considerations, implementing strategies to mitigate them.
Budget Management: Develop and oversee the construction budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control. Provide regular updates to senior leadership on budget status, project milestones, and risks.
Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure construction meets or exceeds standards for data center operations, including uptime, safety, and environmental performance.
Permitting & Compliance: Oversee all permitting and regulatory compliance activities, ensuring that data center projects meet local and international standards and legal requirements.
Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing construction team, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in construction management, with a focus on data center or mission-critical infrastructure.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale, complex construction projects, including ground-up builds.
- Deep understanding of data center construction standards, mechanical/electrical systems, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with a track record of effective collaboration with diverse teams.
- Familiarity with project management software, building information modeling (BIM), and other relevant tools.
- PMP, LEED, or similar certifications are a plus.
